Gmail Organizer Update: Are two labels better than one?
Earlier this month, we made a change to the way Organizer labels messages in your Gmail account. Instead of just one “OtherInbox” label, we started using multiple OIB labels (similar to the way we organize email in Yahoo! Mail accounts).
So far, the majority of the feedback for this change has been very positive. Thank you to all everybody who reached out to us by email or on Get Satisfaction to let us know what you think.
However, we have heard from a number of users who enjoyed the ability to see all of their organized Gmail messages with a single click, as they could before the change. With this in mind, we are contemplating adding a second label to all organized messages: OIB.
Because of Gmail’s unique email architecture, a single email is not limited to just one folder. One email can have multiple labels, so we could leverage this so you can have the best of both worlds.
For example, a newsletter from an online store would have two labels: OIB/Shopping (which exists today) and OIB. A notification from Facebook would have OIB/Social Networking and OIB.
This way, if you want to only see messages from your social networks, just click the OIB/Social Networking label. But, if you want to see everything that has been organized, the OIB label does the trick.
What do you think? Would you find having this additional OIB label useful? Feel free to leave a comment below or email us with your thoughts.

I think that this would be very useful, I’d use it — but I think that it should be an option. Users can use just one label, the (current) multi-label configuration, or both at once.
That would definitely be useful.
This is more than useful for me, this is a make-or-break addition. With the OIB label, I happily keep OtherInbox. Without it, I’ll have to cancel. In order to see what’s new, I have to click through several gmail folders (there’s no way to tell otherwise, it’s not like I’m going to memorize the “new” count for each label). I find that annoying, making the OIB service a net loss for me. I only get a dozen or so OIB messages per day, its easier to just get them right in my inbox than click through all of those folders.
I hope this is resolved soon.
This would be great. I like the organization the multiple folders provide, but it makes checking email on an iPhone a tedious process.
Hoon, in my organizer account, I’m finding that Gmail can be sluggish when switching between folders. So I’d definitely like to have this other label so I can view all the organized messages at once. I check this almost every day so I keep the number pretty small. Being able to see 40-50 organized messages at once would help me for sure.
