Rafe and Tom, the hosts of CNet’s weekly podcast “The Real Deal”, recently gave their thoughts on how users can avoid email overload.

Responding to a concerned listener’s question, they recommended OtherInbox in addition to the use of spam filters and labels. Before moving on to the next question, Rafe and Tom also noted OIB’s disposable email address feature, giving the user complete control over their automated emails.

New Tech Helps Organize Your Life

Fellow Austinite Praises OtherInbox’s Help In Cleaning Up Her Junk Mail

By Maura Nevel Thomas

August 10, 2009

Maura, a local blogger who gives her readers tips on how to better manage their busy lives, recently praised OtherInbox for its help in saving her time and effort.

To begin, she notes the ironic situation that, as social media develops, it not only allows us to connect with more and more people but also to, as she puts it, “keep others at arm’s length, if we so choose.” By allowing her to choose which marketing emails she wants to receive, and when, Maura describes OtherInbox as having “all the advantages of a ‘junk box’ with none of the inconveniences.”

A Look At OIB’s New Hotmail Integration

OtherInbox’s POP Features Detailed At Email Karma

By Matt Vernhout

August 12, 2009

The folks at Email Karma have added to their coverage of OtherInbox, this time featuring our new integration with Hotmail and POP email accounts. In addition to the already-implemented Gmail and Yahoo! Mail features, adding Hotmail to our services now gives more email users than ever the ability to organize their messages automatically.

In his article, Matt focuses on the differences between this webmail integration and the Gmail/Yahoo ones. The key thing is the fact that, because it utilizes POP instead of IMAP, Hotmail users can now decide if they want to keep their messages in their inbox after being organized by OtherInbox.

Matt finishes his new look at OIB by looking to the future, noting the upcoming compatibility with AOL Mail and other IMAP/POP accounts.

Hotmail? OtherInbox can organize that, too!

Wlhlogo

Earlier this year, we launched OtherInbox at SXSW with the ability to integrate with Gmail. Last month, we excitedly presented the Automatic Organizer, an application for Yahoo! Mail.

This week, we're announcing another major addition to our growing list of supported email services: Windows Live Hotmail! Simply point OIB to your Hotmail account and we can go through your inbox and filter the automated messages that don't come from real people. To get started, it's as simple as logging in to Hotmail!

Hotmail_signup

Unlike with Gmail and Yahoo! Mail, OIB connects to Hotmail over Post Office Protocol (or POP). This means OIB can either leave messages in Hotmail's inbox or delete them. In the Gmail and Yahoo! Mail incarnations, we place the organized messages into folders. This way, they're still in your webmail account, just not in the inbox.

To start off, we decided to copy these messages into OtherInbox and leave them in Hotmail, so that no messages would disappear. If you use Hotmail, we would love to know what you think. Should we keep the messages in your inbox so they don't disappear, or should we delete the messages that we recognize?

If you use Hotmail, feel free to sign up for your OtherInbox today! Existing users can point OIB to their Hotmail account as well or read over some frequently asked questions.

International Community Praises OtherInbox

Bloggers From Around The World Love OtherInbox!

July 30, 2009

Two international blogs recently covered OtherInbox, praising OIB’s ability to filter out spam and organize their messy inboxes.

Over at Russian blog Geeker.ru, they wrote up a quick overview of OtherInbox’s main features, highlighting the quick signup process and decrease in unwanted email.

At Arturogaga, Arturo followed up his previous look into OIB Beta with a more in-depth article on our new features. Especially impressive, Arturo says, is the new focus on automatically filtering out messages in Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail.
