By Neville Hobson

July 26, 2009

Neville, a long-time user and beta tester for OtherInbox, listed OIB as his personal tool against newsletters in his latest blog post on email marketing tactics.

In explaining the limited-mindset of email marketers and their definition of successful email campaign, Neville explains the various ways he guards against email overload and the perpetual onslaught of newsletters, offers and announcements.

He exposes the marketing practices of come online services, explaining that “you’d be astonished at how many companies lie through their teeth when they say on their websites ‘we’ll never email you unless you give us your permission’ “.

“Luckily, I now use disposable email addresses at OtherInbox…”

Let’s talk about the iPhone

During our beta testing period, one of our most requested features was a way to get OIB on the iPhone. As a first step, we created a Mobile Safari optimized website that allows all OIB users to read their messages on their iPhone or iPod Touch. Then, we released an IMAP server for premium users that allows you to add OIB as an additional email account on your iPhone, your Blackberry, or even your desktop computer. We're still thinking about the right way to do a native iPhone app.

Although we've had some bumps and bruises along the way, we recently fixed many of the problems our users reported on our support site and are confident the iPhone web app is working properly. We would love it if you would give it a try and let us know what you think!

Just point mobile Safari to my.otherinbox.com, log in with your OIB credentials, and you're all set. If a message is too large to view, tap the "Open message in new window" link above the message to view it full screen, complete with pinch-zooming and everything!

What do you think? How can we make the OIB iPhone web app even better? Would you rather read your OIB messages over IMAP or the web?

OtherInbox’s Cloud Storage Listed As Example Of New Wave In Tech Business

By Chris Preimesberger

July 15, 2009

In an article detailing Joshua Baer’s (our founder) new company BackUpMy.net, which stores a user’s email, blog, pictures and tweets in Amazon’s S3 Cloud infrastructure, Chris over at EWeek listed OtherInbox as a prime example of the new way in business data storage.

“I have another startup called OtherInbox, and we’ve never bought a single server,” Baer said in the interview. “All we have are our laptops. We’re all built on Amazon Web services, everything’s in the cloud. We don’t own any servers; there’s nothing here [in the Austin office].”

OtherInbox: One Year Later

Thinkervine Takes A Look At OIB’s Progress

By Faycal Chraibi

July 11, 2009

Thinkervine’s Faycal Chraibi, a loyal OtherInbox user since our initial launch at TechCrunch last September, recently posted a one-year retrospective on OIB’s growth so far. After a quick overview of our basic features, he gives his thoughts on the various areas we have improved.

Foremost, Faycal is quick to point out our great customer service, saying “where OtherInbox deserves an A+ grade is their dedication and quick response to the user’s requests, fixing the issues in order to avoid harm and inconvenience to the users.”

Faycal then runs through a few of our added features, including increased spam filtering, Gmail integration and the Freemium pricing model. He ends his look back with a final expression of how much OtherInbox has made his life easier, saying “the only thing I was thinking about was being creative when providing the new e-mail addresses.”

By Christopher Calnan

July 3, 2009

For the second time this year, OtherInbox's success was highlighted in the Austin Business Journal. In an article detailing the rise of the "Freemium" business model for tech companies, the Journal cited OtherInbox as an example of how key business relationships and multi-tiered pricing can help bring in users.

Detailing OtherInbox's recent collaboration with Yahoo! Mail and its 300 million users, founder Joshua Baer said that "It's really a key relationship for us. We don't know what to expect, but its always accelerating."

In addition to the Austin area, the ABJ's parent company (American City Business Journals) syndicated the article to over 30 other markets, spreading the word about OtherInbox and the benefits of the Freemium model!
